Why a stay in a hut is a great idea right now.

Lockdown at Guardswell Farm has been focused mainly on… baby animals. To say that we are missing the amazing people that stay in our huts and houses, our beautiful couples who marry on the farm, our intrepid learners attending workshops- would be an understatement. Just because so many elements of our personal lives have been shunted abruptly to a stop doesn’t mean that the farm has realised that.

HOW TO LIGHT A FIRE.

A number one priority in a little hut on a hillside... getting the fire lit.

For some- its a dawdle... for others, their nemesis. So much relies on that fire: the evenings comfort, toasty toes, the whistle of the kettle, warming the wine, chilly nose prevention at 2am...

So here are our top tips!

September is full of amazing produce! We are still harvesting the last of the summer crops from the glasshouse and polytunnel - tomatoes, aubergines, cucumbers, padron peppers - and now we have lots of Autumn crops coming through too - cabbage, broccoli, leeks...a squash or two (unfortunately they weren't as prolific as I had hoped - a project for next year!).

Guardswell Farm is a glorious haven for a variety of native and migrant wildlife. This was clear as soon as I started working here earlier in the year. What I am told was once an area quite void of animal and plant life could not be further from its present state.
